Adult Art Classes in Warwickshire

A common complaint I hear from prospective students, are that they were persuaded to "not study art at school" or "get a 'proper' job, and never have time for anything creative".  Others have gotten frustrated with "not being able to draw in the way they see it in their heads", or "love the process, but would like to produce much better art that they'd be proud to show".  There are many reasons why people take up art classes again, from wanting to improve and develop, to get out away from home for a short while and release their pent up creativity!

Art Classes with me, Sarah Miles, offer a great opportunity to everyone to start learning from scratch; or find some new inspiration; or develop in areas of art you've always struggled.  Students find they are taught skills fundamental to art, that they were not properly shown at school and university, including: 

*breaking down challenging subjects to help us draw them accurately 

*techniques to crack perspective

*how to create form with tonal values

*how to mix colours and a heap of colour theory

*using a range of mediums, including watercolour, charcoal, acrylics, oils (but you can use whatever mediums you prefer or want to learn about)

*experimenting with texture and mixed media

*a range of subjects from still life to life drawing

*building confidence and becoming playful and experimental with our art - this is quite key in our sessions, and I love seeing this grow in everyone.

We also understand here, that art materials are expensive, especially the decent stuff.  How would you know what to choose?  What if you invest in lots of lovely oil paints and then find you prefer watercolours?  Well, if you haven't the materials required for a lesson, we will provide you with the right equipment that you need, until you know what you like and feel you'd like to buy your own materials.  That way, you won't waste your money without being sure you like a medium!

Classes are planned with a topic in mind, and include a 15-30 minute demonstration from me every session.  Currently, I am teaching my way of using textures with watercolours, but if a student wanted to go 'off piste' and use a different medium, they'd be more than welcome.  At the moment, we have a student wanting to use oils and do her own project, and that is encouraged if that is what you'd prefer to do and you'll still get assistance and teaching as you require.

I have two art classes which take place fortnightly (except in May and August when I stop for exhibitions).  My Southam art classes take place at Ladbroke Village Hall on a Friday evening, 7-9pm.  My Kineton art classes take place at Kineton Village Hall on a Wednesday evening, 7:30-9:30pm.  The two classes always have the same planning and sessions running at the same time, which means that if you miss a session at your usual venue, you can ask to make the missed session up at the other venue and day.  So far, this has always worked.  However, if you can't make a different day or venue, notes are always sent out to everyone to keep everyone up to date or to look back on and refresh their learning.  We also have a Facebook page (which anyone can join, member or not) where you can ask for more help and advice from our community, or you can contact me directly.
