"This painting is inspired by the English fairy tale: ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.  There is an older version written in 1734, but it is very confusing and the author may have been drunk when he wrote it.  Instead I based this painting on the better known version written by Joseph Jacobs in 1890.  My painting captures the scene where Jack is escaping down the Beanstalk having just stolen the giant's golden harp (the last of the three things he stole: gold coins, a goose/hen that laid golden eggs, and the harp). The giant is alerted to the theft by the harp calling for him as it is being stolen.  I put the giant in the clouds... just because that is the sort of thing I do!"
