"'The Butterfly' is a mixed media piece, making up one of a series of four square paintings inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's 'The Butterfly'.  The story is about a butterfly who spends too long choosing which flower to be his companion.  Two of the paintings have excerpts of the story written into the design of the paintings.  All the original butterflies are made with sand to build up interesting texture on their wings, and then later painted with oils."

All the original butterfly canvases are available with a black, floating frame.  The way the canvases are attached to the frame looks like they are floating inside, and you can still glimpse the canvases' beautifully painted edges.
