Taking place at two venues on two different evenings, fortnightly.  We are now sold out at the Kineton venue on a Wednesday evening, but we do still have eight spaces available at Ladbroke on a Friday evening, so please only select for Ladbroke at checkout.  If you want to be put on the waiting list for Kineton, please contact Sarah at [email protected].  Students are welcome to make up any missed sessions at the other evening class if there is space.

Our course on Portraits is finally here, and I am very excited to be sharing this one with you!  I will be demonstrating and teaching you how to structure and paint a human face, and will also relate back to animals (for those of you who are choosing to do animal portraits instead).  You will learn to:

*Structure a face in charcoal and paint

*Use large and small shapes

*Start with thinner paint, and finish with thicker consistencies (for all mediums)

*Understand more on why we use soft and hard edges in our painting (not just on portraits)

*Painting techniques to suit your chosen medium 

Medium

If you're not particular about which medium you'd like to use, then you may like to use acrylics or oils, as I will be demonstrating in oils and the techniques between the two aren't vastly dissimilar.  If you would rather use a different medium, like watercolour, that is absolutely fine but it would be good to let me know, so I can make sure I am properly planned for anyone using other mediums.  

Materials:

When you sign up, I will send you an email with the plans and materials required within a week.  Most of the students on this class bring their own materials, but all are welcome to dip into mine if you want to try a few things or forgot anything.  I always have a cart full of things, just in case (and we always need something from it).  To use a few cheeky bits won't cost anything extra!

However, if you are someone who would rather not worry about materials at all and come to class with nothing, I can provide you with all the necessary materials for the sessions.  Please select the 'add on materials' button which will cost an extra £35.  You will be provided with:

Session 1: 2 sheets of sketching paper, some of my charcoal, fixative

Session 2: a sheet of sketching paper, charcoal, a sheet of acrylic paper, board, and black/white acrylic paints

Session 3: A sheet of oil/ acrylic paper, some of my oil or acrylic paint on a tear-off palette, a board, optional charcoal and fixative

Session 4, 5, 6 and 7: A sheet of oil / acrylic paper or canvas for your main piece, acrylic paint for underlay, some of my oil/acrylic paint on a tear-off palette, a board, plus an extra acrylic/ oil paper in case you finish quickly and want another go!

Prices work out at £16 per session. If you would prefer to pay in instalments, please do contact me as this is something I can offer and work out with you over direct payments.  Please note that classes are non-refundable, unless I am the one to cancel a class.  However, I do try to help my students as much as possible in the event of missing classes.  You are welcome to come to another course which is also running in the same term, so long as there is space.  Please contact me to check.  I also send out notes after the classes to everyone, and occasionally there are even video tutorials or a film of one of the classes you missed!  If you don't receive notes within 8 days of your class, please check your Junk Folder or email me.  All my students are also welcome to email me or put on our Facebook page any work they are working on from class, and I will do my best to respond with some helpful feedback within a few days.

Please be assured that you are welcome to do animal portraits instead of people portraits, and may use other mediums.  I will bring lots of reference images for both animal and people portraits.
